Healthier Lungs, Healthier Kentucky
Educating all Kentuckians on the importance of lung health
Breathe Better Kentucky is an initiative of the Kentucky Medical Association and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky to educate all Kentuckians, especially those living in underserved communities, on the importance of lung health.
Through this public health campaign, we hope to better address the diseases and illnesses associated with poor lung health, including adult influenza, pneumococcal disease and cancer, and highlight the social determinants impacting Kentucky health outcomes.
Kentucky has long been known for its struggles with
tobacco use and lung cancer.
Pneumonia, which often starts as the flu, is a leading cause of death in the state, claiming the lives of more than 900 Kentuckians each year. Now, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the severe lung complications that can result from the coronavirus, improving Kentuckians’ lung health has never been more important.
